May 3 - London

During our last trip to the UK we did 2000 kilometers.  This time, we are going to be doing 2500+.  This is our proposed itinerary:

Victoria - Vancouver - London - Kirkwall - Stromness - Thurso - Inverness - Edinburgh - Berwick-Upon-Tweed - Edinburgh - York - London - Vancouver - Victoria

Whew.

So, today, Day 2 (technically).  We rose with the birds as much as possible and had breakfast at the Grange Lodge.  We planned our day a little, not much.  We were tired and we didn't want to do too much so that we ended up re-doing things when Melissa and Jon arrived.  We wanted to experience  it with them.

We completely forgot that it was Sunday....our first stop was a bank or bank machine.  You'd think that wouldn't be too hard to find....it was.  We walked up Ealing almost to Ealing Broadway, found a Starbucks and decided to google where the nearest bank machine is.  We still couldn't find it.

We ended up walking to the underground and headed for the Monument Station.  We were on a mission, to find the Gherkin.

Here's the Monument:

We landed downtown and it was deserted.  We actually have the best touristy pictures as NO ONE was up yet!

This we found in our hotel.  You don't always feel like you're in a foreign country until you see something like this:

or this:

How cute is the little guys face?

Everywhere, 2 taps.  I finally figured out how to wash my hands with warm water.  It took me watching a woman in the bathroom.  When she saw me staring, she looked concerned.  I didn't care, I finally knew how to deal with this:

The Tower of London

Tower Bridge:

This was my favourite photo of the trip to this point.  He's just amazing.

 The Belfast:

Our B and B had a cat.  He was sure cute and a good mooch.

This building literally made us feel queasy, like it should topple over any minute:

A trip wouldn't be a trip without a reminder of Jamie

Kent found this little shopping area, under cover with cobble stone roads, super cute and super closed.  Fortunately for Kent....not so much for me.

Found the Gherkin!

Kent embraced the Gherkin:

I love an old church.

I'd never seen a complete rack of these bikes!

Waited for these to ring....they didn't.

Love Grafitti

We then walked over the Tower Bridge.  This was an eye opener...

It's made of wood covered in a thin layer of asphalt.

And it's beautiful

The Shard.

Don't want to enter here....

Skyline with the queasy building.

Mistake?  I don't think so....

Another undercover/indoor mall

Pick me!  Pick me!

Two of my most favourite men.

Oh, here's another one!

Monument outside the Churchill War Rooms

I wasn't being very still....

Westminster Neighbourhood

Cool clock outside Westminster Abbey

Now, waiting for Melissa and Jon to fly in tonight, then the adventure will really begin!
